Power Dynamics in Intimate & Sexual Relationships

Presenter: Marty Klein, Ph.D.

This program examines how adults use power in relationships—and how we can make these dynamics and their consequences more visible to clients. We’ll examine how to assess power dynamics and their effects, looking at meta-issues such as narratives, existential issues, and relationship contracts. We’ll look at how to shape couples’ conflicts so they’re more effective (and less scary to the conflict- avoidant). And we’ll see how power can be consciously used to invigorate sexual relationships.

Marty Klein, Ph.D., has been a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Sex Therapist for 34 years. Each year he trains thousands of psychologists and physicians across America and internationally. Honored by many professional societies such as CAMFT, he recently gave two Congressional briefings on evidence-based school sex education. The author of seven books, often quoted by national media such as the New York Times and the New Yorker, he is a former adjunct instructor at Stanford University Medical School.

An Evidence-Based Approach to Cannabis:
Cannabis Science in the 21st Century

Presenter: Michael Backes

Did you miss the opportunity to learn more about the burgeoning field of cannabis science, how it impacts your clients and the work you do with them? Wish you could receive high quality continuing education credits (CEs) from the comfort and convenience of your home or office? If so, then LACPA has you covered!

Recent changes in legislation are dramatically changing the perception, availability, and utilization of cannabis. Currently, 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 5 adults under 30 are consuming medical and recreational cannabis. These changes affect your clients and your work with them and highlight the need for clear, clinical information based on the latest findings and evidence-based research.

Michael Backes, world-renowned expert in the cannabis science and author of Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana, will outline the state of the science in a sophisticated, nuanced way that is sadly lacking in the typical discourse. He will deepen your understanding of how cannabis interacts with the mind and body, thus allowing you to address cannabis use (and abuse) with innovative approaches – including the latest harm reduction strategies.

All of our online CEs are professionally recorded in a user-friendly format that allows you to see both the video and the slides simultaneously. You will be able to pause, walk away, and pick it up later. Enjoy the convenience of online learning without complications, as we have simplified and refined the technology to make it easy to learn from home. Anyone can do it—and so can you. And of course, LACPA members always receive a discounted price. Increase your learning and get high quality CEs from your home or office. You will be glad you did.
