This presentation will explore capacities in the therapist that can help a patient gather and regain their sense of agency when their own sense of themselves is felt to be dissolving, spilling, shattering. Often patients act out in these states, and they and/or the treatment is threatened. The responsiveness of the therapist to such threatening states of mind, as well as to potential destructive actions, will be elaborated.
