The Accidental Empress: A Novel
This historical fiction novel is about the Habsburgs, Europe’s most powerful ruling family at their time. Emperor Franz Joseph’s mother selected a cousin for him to marry. However, instead he choose her the fifteen-year-old sister, Elisabeth, known as “Sisi.” Thrust onto the throne of Europe’s most treacherous imperial court, Empress Elisabeth upset political and familial loyalties in her quest to win, and keep, the love of her emperor, her people, and of the world. Two of the many strong reviews on Amazon.com describe it as “Skillful and utterly captivating,” and “A stunning masterpiece of imagination, enriched with lavish historical detail…utterly riveting, amazingly insightful.”
On a person note, I’ve read the first quarter of the book and consider it a fun and fast read. In addition, learning details about European history beginning in the mid-19th century is interesting. Somehow I missed this appreciation when I crammed through it decades ago – LOL. Amy Rosett, Ph.D.
