Please join us to hear a SIG talk by Dr. David Narang speak on "Inviting Isolated Patients into Authentic Relating" on June 19th Mindfulness & Spriituality SIG at the LACPA office in Encino from 9-10:30 am (see details below and make sure to RSVP by June 18th).

We may be wired for intimacy and attachment, but what about when your lonely patient says to you and their larger social world, "I ain't going (and/or cannot go) willingly?!" The SIG talk will begin with a brief TED talk summarizing a 75-year longitudinal study on the relevance of close relationships to life satisfaction and longevity. Shifting into the therapy room, we'll discuss the power of social cognition and identifying social fears. Addressing those fears experientially, we'll focus on contributions from Gestalt therapy toward tuning our therapeutic stance to inviting the patient into more authentic ways of relating, using new therapy footage (i.e., from Robert Resnick, Ph.D.'s series of Gestalt therapy films) to illustrate.

Dr Narang Bio:
David Narang, Ph.D. is a psychologist in private practice in West Los Angeles, specializing in helping individual adults and families with their relationships. Focused on Gestalt and Psychodynamic attachment therapeutic work, he is the author of a workbook on attachment style entitled 'Leaving Loneliness.'
