Rating:My hiking book does not provide ratings for this hike. However, my hiking companions and I would rate this hike as moderate. The trail itself is well marked and well maintained and does not require any additional challenges beyond the moderate ascents and descents, and the distance of the hike.  This hike follows the East Topanga Fire Road along the ridge dividing Topanga Canyon and Santa Ynez Canyon.  There are spectacular views into both canyons along the trail. We will return to our starting point. Hiking boots are recommended and hiking poles are always a plus, but good tennis shoes should be find for this trail as well.  The trail is open with limited shade, so sunscreen and a hat are recommended if the weather is warm; a light sweatshirt or other outer layer if the weather is cool.   Water is a must, and a snack for the trail is suggested since this is a longer hike.

Directions:From the San Fernando Valley, take the 101 Freeway to Topanga Canyon Blvd.  Head south on Topanga Canyon 7.6 miles to Entrada Drive.  Turn left and follow the posted state park signs to the parking lot.  You can also park on the street before or after the park entrance if you can find a spot, in order to avoid the parking fee.  From Santa Monica, take PCH north to Topanga Canyon Blvd.  Turn right and continue 4.6 miles to Entrada Road and turn right.  Again, follow the posted state park signs to the parking lot.

Parking:This is a State Park so there is a $10 parking fee.  Not sure if the old “Iron Maiden” is still there, requiring cash, or one of the new automated "Pay to Park" devices which will take your credit card, so please come prepared for either one.

HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU AND/OR TO SEE YOU THERE!
