ACT 101 Part I: Understanding Core Concepts of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

I am excited to host the next CBT SIG on Thursday 3/1/18 at 6pm, where we will be kickstarting the SIG launch by introducing a two part series focused on understanding core concepts of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), followed by practical and experiential ACT exercises and interventions.

About the speaker: Noah Laracy, Psy.D., is a program director and staff clinician at Renewed Freedom Center for Rapid Anxiety Relief, a CBT/ACT/Exposure Response Prevention based treatment center. Currently he treats adults, children, and families suffering from obsessive-compulsive spectrum and other anxiety-related disorders. He specializes in utilizing third-wave cognitive and behavioral interventions to target complex and treatment resistant patients. Dr. Laracy has also presented on integrative ACT based interventions at various national conferences.

Synopsis: Part One of this two-part talk will cover basic principles and concepts that underlie ACT, including functional contextualism, relational frame theory, fusion, and experiential avoidance. The ACT Hexaflex and ACT Matrix will also be introduced. Time will be allotted for question and discussion.

When: 3/1/18 from 6 pm - 7:30 pm

Location: We meet at Renewed Freedom Center (RFC) conference room located at 1849 Sawtelle Blvd, Suite 710, Los Angeles, CA 90025

Parking: There is ample street parking available on Sawtelle Blvd and nearby residential streets (metered and unmetered). There is a building parking garage, just note that RFC does not validate.

Be sure to mark your calendars and RSVP to me at drizquierdo@renewedfreedomcenter.com if you plan on attending.

***Remember that March and April 2018 SIGs are open to both LACPA members and non-members, so feel free to invite other mental health professionals that may be considering membership and want to explore the various SIGs available to LACPA members.

Hope to see you there!

Christine Izquierdo, Psy.D.
