Topic: Mental Health and Sport Psychology at the NCAA Division III Level

Speakers: 

Ann Hickey, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Chair of the Kinesiology Department at Whittier College.  She also serves as a Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR).  Dr. Hickey earned her B.A. in Psychology from Whittier College and her Ph.D. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology from the University of Southern California.  She is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).  Dr. Hickey has provided performance enhancement services to a youth volleyball club team and has worked with student-athletes from Whittier College from various sports.  Her research interests include performance enhancement, use of sport psychology services, and leadership development. 

 

Jason von Stietz, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral fellow at the Whittier College Student Counseling Center and a psychological assistant at the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Southern California. He serves as the co-chair of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA) Sport Psychology Special Interest Group (SIG). Dr. von Stietz earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles. He has previously provided mental health and sport psychology services at the Major League Baseball Youth Academy in Compton and Los Angeles Valley College. In addition, he has acted as team consultant to several collegiate teams. Dr. von Stietz has presented on his research findings and professional experiences at conferences at the local, regional, and national levels, including the prestigious Winter Roundtable, hosted by Columbia University.
