This Beginning Level workshop is designed to help clinicians improve their understanding about how websites are created and how they operate. This is important for determining the type of website that will best suit the needs of an individual practice or organization. Many clinicians feel that the hurdles presented in understanding this technology are insurmountable. There are certainly cases where highly sophisticated custom designed websites, developed by programmers, produce the best outcomes. However, with a little bit of knowledge, clinicians can develop surprisingly robust and useful websites without knowing how to write computer code. Ultimately, if a clinician decides to hire a web programmer, knowing more about website design and implementation is likely to help produce a more satisfactory (and more cost effective) outcome.

Topics to be covered:

               How websites work

How to design a website: DIY or hire outside help?

               Understanding SEO

Learning how to write and produce content for websites

Understanding the difference between secure, insecure, and HIPAA-compliant portions of your website

               Methods for safely collecting ePHI)

Instructional methods: Didactic presentation, group discussion of participants’ needs, and video presentation.
