Topic: Anxiety and ADHD: Should we be paying more attention?

Why are we seeing more kids in our practices with ADHD complicated by anxiety disorders such as social phobia, GAD, and separation anxiety? For many of us on the front lines caring for children with ADHD, anxiety complicates the clinical picture, this is of particular concern since these kids frequently have significant difficulties in academic areas and peer relationships, which negatively impacts their quality of life. Studies show that these kids are less resilient and have more difficulty adapting to transitions. For professionals, co-morbid anxiety disorders can complicate diagnosis as well as treatment. This presentation will examine each of these issues in more detail from a pragmatic clinical perspective and will be helpful to all practitioners.
