Understanding the DSM-5: What Every Practitioner Needs to Know

 Presenter:  Greg J. Neimeyer, PhD

The most recent revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) represents a major departure from its predecessor (DSM-IV-TR) and has created a firestorm of controversy as a result.  The discontinuation of the multi-axial system, the addition and deletion of specific disorders, the substantial regrouping and reclassification of familiar disorders, and significant changes in the names, nature and criteria associated with various disorders all mark the fifth edition of the DSM as a substantial revision of the manual.  This interactive workshop will provide participants with a clear delineation of the key changes in the DSM-5, together with an opportunity to apply and discuss novel diagnostic concepts.

Presenter:  Greg J. Neimeyer, PhD
, Director of the Office of Continuing Education in Psychology at the American Psychological Association and professor of psychology in the department of psychology at the University of Florida.  Dr. Neimeyer participated in special training offered by the American Psychiatric Association prior to the release of the DSM-5 and will provide that unique perspective to this workshop.
