The NeuroAffective Relational Model ™ (NARM™) is a theoretical and skills-based model that is used in working with developmental, relational, and attachment trauma.  It integrates psychodynamic and somatic based approaches working with the integration between psychological and nervous system regulation. In this way, NARM™ targets both unconscious and conscious trauma.


In developmental trauma, individuals incorporate the environmental failure they have experienced in a top -own process of distorted identifications and a bottom-up process of disturbed regulation.  NARM™ is an integrated top-down and bottom up approach. Knowing how to work with the complex interplay between the nervous system and identifications greatly expands overall therapeutic effectiveness.


This workshop will offer an overview of developmental trauma from a NARM™ perspective.  Understanding and being able to work with developmental dynamics is critical for helping our clients in their healing process.  We will look at how clients’ life experiences present themselves in the context of a complex, psychobiologically-driven relational framework that is often largely unconscious.  This framework, laid down by our early attachment experiences, shapes our development, who we are in the world (our self), and how we relate to others.   When clients are having difficulty shifting out of patterns of dysregulation, these implicit dynamics are at play and must be addressed.  The NARM™ approach weaves together a somatic or body-based (bottom-up) process while simultaneously working with clients’ identity and relational dynamics (top-down).


Lynne Friedman-Gell, Ph.D., NMP, is a clinical psychologist and trauma specialist practicing in Studio City and Sherman Oaks.  She works extensively with adults and adolescents on issues of addiction, developmental and shock trauma, anxiety disorders and dual diagnosis. Lynne is certified as a practitioner of the NeuroAffective Relational Model of Psychology (NARM™), part of the NARM™ teaching team, trained in EMDR, has completed Level 1 and 2 in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and is training in psychobiological relational psychotherapy.







Joanne Barron, Psy.D., NMP, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing in Sherman Oaks and Westwood.  Her specialties include treating developmental and shock trauma as well as addictions.  Additionally, she is co-owner of Insight Treatment Program, along with her husband.  Dr. Barron earned her Doctorate at Ryokan College and later completed levels one and two of the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), she is a certified NARM™ Practitioner (Neuro Affective Relational Model™) and currently is one of the teaching staff for NARM™ and is a trained EMDR therapist.






This course is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Psychological Association (LACPA.)  LACPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. LACPA maintains responsibility for the program and its content.


This course may be taken to satisfy California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) continuing education requirements.


It is important to note that APA continuing education rules require that LACPA only give credit to those who attend the entire workshop.  An evaluation of the workshop must be completed. Those who arrive more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leave before the workshop is complete will not receive CE credit. Partial credit may not be given.
